FAQ

On this page, we have listed questions that are frequently asked. If you're looking for a particular question, please use the search-functionality in your browser (Ctrl-F on Windows). If your question is not answered below, please feel free to ask us one.

  1. What are the graphical properties of CostPerform?

The model can be fully graphically built. Drag and drop resources, activities and products. Draw allocations between them. In a mouseclick the model is loaded and results are transferred back. Ideal in workshops with management to give insight into the business.

  2. What platforms is QPR CostControl using?

Our software is platform independent. QPR CostControl is developed in Java (J2EE) and runs on several databases (Oracle, MS Sql Server, MySql).

  3. Can QPR report non-financial measures?

By integrating QPR CostControl with QPR ScoreCard, all kinds of performance measure can be monitored through a true web based Scorecard.

  4. Can processes be modeled and managed in QPR?

Yes, processes can be managed in depth until the Administrative Organisation/Internal Control and working instruction level, using QPR ProcessGuide.

  5. Does QPR CostControl integrate with other systems?

Yes, QPR CostControl easily integrates with other systems such as bookkeeping, production, sales and datawarehouses. Through an easy-to-learn intuitive wizard existing data can be read into QPR CostControl.

  6. Does QPR CostControl have a link with SAP and other ERP systems?

Yes, integration with ERP systems is easy using the bridge called 'data transmission'.

  7. Does QPR CostControl allow for push or pull allocations?

In QPR CostControl the user is allowed to set push or pull at the object level. Push and pull can be used mixed in one model. Push allocations are allocations independent of the volume of the destination (e.g. a percentage). Pull allocations take the volume on the destination into account (e.g. this product needs that activity twice and that activity once, every time it is produced).

  8. Does QPR CostControl take capacity into account?

Yes, through smart allocation rules, the user defines at every object whether calculation is based on capacity or usage. Thus the user defines whether alls cost is allocated (Fully Allocated Cost, FAC) or whether cost is allocated based on capacity (normal cost). Allocation based on capacity can be useful in situations where cost of overcapacity is not to be included in the product cost (e.g. in the beginning or end of a product life-cycle).

  9. Does QPR CostControl allow for recursive loops to solve overhead allocations?

Yes, recursive loops are allowed through a special loop layer. It is used mostly for overhead (ICT department uses square meters and housing department uses workstations). The recursive loop is solved in the true mathematical way using Gauss-Jordan matrix elimination.

  10. Does QPR CostControl keeps track of all possible allocation paths?

Yes, through built-in roll-up and drill-down reports the user can start at an object on any level (e.g. a product) and follow all allocation tracks back to the resource or cost item (as well as the other way around).

  11. Does QPR CostControl show allocations in a user friendly matrix screen?

Yes, whereas competing products show allocations in a 1 dimensional list, QPR CostControl shows all allocations in a 2-dimensional matrix screen. It makes the interaction with the managers of the 'shopfloor' where data is collected much easier and through an understandable interface.

  12. Does QPR CostControl allow for mind-based allocations?

Yes, through a new technique called distribution, QPR CostControl allows for simple single allocations to a group of recipients. In our minds we, people, allocate a resource (group of employees) to a set of 100 activities based on volume and time per activity. In other software tools this would require 100 allocations. Our mind-based distribution allocation allows the user to allocate this in one single allocation, just like our mind is working.

  13. Does QPR CostControl allow for Activity-Based-Budgeting (ABB)?

Yes, using our pull and capacity based allocations QPR CostControl is well suited for ABB.

  14. Is it possible to allocate overhead as a percentage on (already) allocated cost?

Yes, one of our allocation rules allows allocation as a calculated percentage on top of other allocated costs.

  15. Is QPR CostControl open to analysis tools?

Yes, through our data transmission wizard data is easily exported towards analysis systems.

  16. To what extent is QPR CostControl integrated with Excel?

If the user wants to use Excel, all reports can be viewed in Excel (and html), drag and drop towards Excel is possible. Drag and drop from Excel to QPR CostControl is possible, making it easy to enter lists in Excel into QPR CostControl. But if the user doesn't want to use Excel, it is not needed at all.
  17. Does QPR CostControl keep track of changes?

Yes, QPR CostControl has an audit trail where all changes are logged to the user that made the cahnge.

  18. How is the QPR CostControl User Management and Security set up?

QPR CostControl is a true multi-user system. Security is arranged at the object level. Every user can be allowed access to certain objects. In this way the user management allows specific users only to the part of the model where they are granted access rights. User groups and access to branches in the model makes security management easier to maintain.

  19. Is it possible to consolidate sub-models into one main model?

Yes, our software is well suited to build models of parts of the organisation and consolidate them into one model of the total organisation.

  20. Does QPR CostControl allow for periods?

Yes, a model allows for several consecutive periods (e.g. years or months). Also other kinds of periods can be modeled (e.g. budget, actual and allowed cost -budgeted cost based on actual volume-). Within models scenarios can be modeled. Data of different periods can be reported in one report.
